The DSS for Civil Defense
For the Civil Protection of the Lombardy Region, TerrAria designed and implemented Sinergie, the decision support system (DSS) for the management, both in monitoring and forecasting, of criticalities resulting from natural hazards of hydrogeological and hydraulic type, both through its operators in the regional operations room and in the operations rooms of the structures that must ensure the first response activities to emergencies.
The main features of Sinergie are:
- Use of environmental monitoring data from remote stations of regional ARPAs present in the Po River Basin;
- querying and processing station data in the form of thematic maps and graphs, exploiting geographic features and employing the layers of the regional spatial information system;
- Integrated use of services specifically developed to assess hydraulic risk such as the spatial representation of precipitation field from rain gauges and radar data
and the representation of stations on which exceedances of alert/criticality thresholds are recorded; - elaboration of flood risk forecasts over the Milan metropolitan area and the Lambro River basin;
- consultation of rainfall forecast prepared by local and European models.
THE ROLE OF TERRARIA
TerrAria, with the goal of continuous improvement, was commissioned by ARIA S.p.A. Lombardy on behalf of the Lombardy Region to modernize the DSS toward the new “Platform for Risk Assessment”.
