Regional-scale modeling

CAMx and WRF-CHEM models

Regional-scale modeling is used for model simulations on regional scales from 50 km to a few hundred km with the inclusion of pollutant chemistry within the atmosphere. Using the CAMx model, TerrAria has prepared the Remediation Plan for the provinces of Trento and Bolzano. Within the SINOPIAE project, using the outputs of the WRF-CHEM model, it has been possible to investigate the effect of air pollution on the quality status of inland waters (relationship between aerosol type/origin and chemical composition and water quality), the effects of atmospheric dust and black carbon on snow and ice in Alpine mountainous regions. In addition, it was possible to study the resulting implications on the processes of melting, scattering and reflection of radiative fluxes in urban environments for the measurement of energy efficiency and thermal delta of buildings. As part of the European Life OPERA project, regional/local authorities were supported in the definition, implementation and evaluation of air quality policies aimed at reducing population exposure to key pollutants.
