Multimodel AiR Suite
TerrAria, in collaboration with Wood, developed the MARS (Multimodel AiR Suite) system in the context of the project “Environmental services for the city of Jazan, primary and downstream industries: environmental studies, surveys and assessment” on behalf of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
MARS is a modeling platform to support both the assessment of odors and impacts of pollutants in the atmosphere, and allows simulating the current condition and possible future realizations/changes related to the development of Jazan Economic City. It is a web interface capable of estimating the concentrations of odors/pollutants in the atmosphere from specific sources and to the diffusion of the same, also taking into account the chemical transformations of pollutants occurring in the atmosphere for spatial domains at a regional scale.
The following figure shows the architecture of MARS, which consists of a common input database (e.g., meteorological fields) from which simulations of different dispersion models (e.g., CALPUFF and CAMx) can be configured and run, based on a “back-end model” to ensure adequate computational performance. Through a common interface (MARS Front End) represented by the most popular
browsers (e.g. Firefox, Chrome …), the user can access with a WebGIS the model output (e.g. concentration maps, time series graphs …).
The MARS system currently allows the use of CALPUFF and CAMx air quality models.
Below is an example of a visualization of benzene fallout at the regional scale obtained using the CAMx model.
